Charles Allmond

Charles Allmond is a sculptor who finds inspiration in the natural world. Primarily a direct carver in stone and wood he also produces limited editions of many of his works in bronze. His distinctive style ranges from realism to abstract. Born in 1931, in Wilmington, Delaware, Allmond is a graduate of P.S. duPont High School and holds degrees in agriculture and agronomy from the University of Delaware and in Law from Temple University. He served in the United States Coast Guard and has worked as an agronomist, seed analyst, field man for a food processing business and manager of a crop dusting service. He practiced law for more than 30 years and has been active in civic and cultural affairs. He is the author of several scholorly and popular articles on agriculture, history and law.

Allmond is past president of the Society of Animal Artists. His sculptures have been exhibited in the United States, Canada and Sweden, where the work received critical acclaim. Venues have included more than 100 museums. He is represented in the permanent collections of the Biggs Museum of American Art, Dover, DE; Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, WI; Blauvelt Art Museum, Oradell, NJ, University of Delaware and other public, corporate and private collections. Among his honors are important awards from the Society of Animal Artists, the Salmagundi Club, Audubon Artists, Rehobeth Art League and Woodmere Art Museum. He recently was designated as Master Signature Member and received the Bott-Borghi-Bransom Animal Art Legacy Award from the Society of Animal Artists. In 2004 he received the Delaware Governor's Award for the Arts and in 2007 was elected to the University of Delaware Alumni Wall of Fame.
