Early on the morning of September 11,1777, two armies prepared to engage in what would become the largest area land battle during the Revolutionary War. Covering 12 square miles of Chester and Delaware CountiesWashington faced General Howe's army beginning at the Brandywine River to defend Philadelphia from British army.

Artists Pamela Patrick White and Bryant White have teamed up to unveil their new collection of paintings depicting the tumultuous events of that day. Join both artists for the opening at Hardcastle Gallery on Friday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 and on Saturday at 11am to hear them talk about the battle in relationship to their paintings.

Eighteenth Century American History is the focus for both artists, the French and Indian War, Colonial America and the Revolutionary War are just a few of the areas depicted by these dedicated artists. The local contexts of these paintings are well researched and will appeal to history buffs and art collectors alike.

The Brandywine Battlefield State Park currently finds itself in a skirmish with the State of Pennsylvania for funding to keep the park open. "We hope that the exhibition of these paintings will help people become aware of the importance of this battle, which took place in so many locals back yards. Art is one way to preserve our American heritage and the Battle of Brandywine needs to be remembered."

Hardcastle Gallery will be open for Art on the Town on September 11th from 5:30-8:30pm.

December 4-31 - Simboli ~ A Family Tradition in Art

Opening Reception : Friday, Dec. 4th,  5:30 - 8:30 pm

Tim Simboli, pastel

The Simboli tradition in art began in 1904 when Pietro Simboli came to Pennsylvania from Rome.  Now in the fourth generation of artists, Hardcastle Gallery is pleased to present Joe and Gerry Simboli and three of their children, Tim, Sara and Andrew, in an exciting exhibition of new work. The show will open in conjunction with our Holiday ART of Gift-Giving show on December 4th, from 5:30-8:30 pm as the final Art on the Town of the year. Join us for a festive opening and month of good cheer for your holiday art needs!!

Tim Simboli, already a favorite of Hardcastle followers, is a successful pastel painter in the Philadelphia region.  The winner of numerous awards, his work is shown in the US and abroad, and is held in private and corporate collections.

Sara Simboli studied for many years with renowned painter, Frank Mason, at the Art Student’s League in NYC.  Her love of 17th Dutch painting began then. Sara’s creative quest is to show how form is revealed out of darkness into light and how light is a penetrating force in daily life.

Andrew Simboli has been influenced by early exposure to art which gives life to and fuels his photography.  A quote from his favorite adventure photographer, Galen Rowell:  “Humanity is all better for it when creative individuals succeed in communicating their life’s most important visions into the minds of others”.

Joe & Gerry Simboli are graduates of the University of the Arts and have had a long and varied art career. Poster art has been a part of their work; recently a zodiac poster they designed from 1969 reappeared as a basis for a clothing line. In addition to their graphic work, Joe and Gerry have combined talents to create fine art wood sculptures.
