Steven J. White, always drawing, always looking, a restless adventurer is a self taught watercolorist. His traditional landscapes of Pennsylvania farms and woodlands, the Adirondack Mountains and  Schuylkill River Heritage areas have awarded him with regional and national recognition.

His paintings have been featured on the cover of the Montgomery County Town & Country Magazine and the Equine Marketer and  in the April 2004 issue of American Artist. His painting “Saturday Morning” has been published  by North Light Books in Splash 7: The Qualities of Light.

October 5-27 - Be Still - Invitational still-life show

Opening Reception : Friday, October 5, 5:30 - 8:30 pm

Hardcastle Gallery is pleased to offer a themed exhibition depicting the "details” of life. For most people, a still-life in art conjures images of bouquets of flowers with trinkets placed appropriately close by in a pleasing arrangement. For Hardcastle Gallery we see this is a challenge for a talented group to share their interpretations of a "still-life". a close-up view of one aspect of life, a  quiet room, a corner of a garden, items strewn across a table or chair…Some of our invited artists will include: Marilyn Bauman, John Bayalis, Nancy Cunningham, Jeff Gola, June Maxwell, Barbara Neville, Heather Hedin Peacock and others.

Opening Reception : Friday, November 2, 5:30 - 8:30 pm

Hardcastle Gallery is pleased to welcome back Donna Cusano for her fourth one-woman exhibition here in Centreville.  Collectors of Ms. Cusano’s work will be excited by this new series of pastels as she explores color, form and reality through plein air painting.  Further Afield, as the name brings to mind images of rolling lush hills, creeks and streambeds and sunlit fields is a collection of these images in their simplest form. Please join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, November 2nd.  This is a great opportunity for a first time art-buyer to meet and mingle with this very talented and collectible artist.

The title of this show suggests a physical wandering or traveling to places as yet not personally explored. Although I have visited a few new locations to paint en plein air, the images that have resulted here represent more a psychological and emotional journey through the use of colored pigment.  Painted both in the studio and on location, this collection is by far my most experimental and focuses on the search for the simplest means of depicting my subject. I will be including many studies and sketches, along with more ambitious pieces, which will illustrate the process of editing basic image-making elements down to the essential.

Movement and gesture both play large rolls in this new work. - Donna Cusano

December 1-31 - Tim Simboli & The Art of Gift-Giving

Opening Reception : Friday, December 7th, 5:30 - 8:30 pm

Hardcastle Gallery, the top gallery in the area for fine pastel paintings, is pleased to invite Tim Simboli for a one man show during December.  Tim’s pastel originals do not last long on our walls; local collectors quickly scoop them up.  The soft light and luminous atmosphere draw the viewer into Simboli's wooded pathways or Italian vistas.  This show will have something for everyone in the spirit of the “gift-giving” season.  Plan on including Hardcastle Gallery in your holiday shopping and join us to meet the artist on Friday, December 7th from 5:30 -8:30 pm.  Hardcastle’s will be open 7 days a week for the first three weeks of December.  Call us for more information.

A Philadelphia regional artist, Tim Simboli is a fourth generation painter, born into a family immersed in the arts. His great-grandfather, Pietro, studied fine arts in Rome and worked as a muralist, painter and sculptor in the United States . Pietro’s son, Ray, was a painting professor at Carnegie-Mellon University . Tim’s father, Joseph Simboli, was one of three grandchildren who became professional artists. He and his wife, Gerry, graduated from the University of the Arts and established Simboli Design. Tim’s sister, Sara, is a professional artist based in New York City .

Raised in a creative atmosphere, Tim began to draw at an early age. He became interested in landscape painting while studying with the master painter, Tom Bostelle. He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Temple University ’s Tyler School of Art.  Following in the footsteps of his great grandfather, Tim spent time abroad studying painting in Rome , where he worked extensively in landscape. This work appeared in several shows in Rome and in a one-man show in the United States upon his return.

Tim has worked in a variety of mediums, but is attracted to pastel, which lends itself to the richness of color he uses to depict light and shadow.

Along with a number of private art collections, Tim has been commissioned to paint landscapes for a show at Longwood Gardens and has contributed to the Ecumenical World Conference.  In 2002, Tim was inducted into the Creative Artists Network of Philadelphia. His work has been exhibited at the Creative Artists Network Gallery, as well as in additional shows in Philadelphia , in Bryn Mawr and at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore . Tim Simboli was invited to be a member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and was elected to the Board of Directors in the fall of 2003
